#OneWord – Exhilarate

In our class, we are doing a art project called #OneWord.  The idea of the project is to choose a word that means something to you, and that will help you in the coming year.  I chose the word “Exhilarate”.  I choose it because it means to enliven, invigorate, and stimulate. I feel like that is what I need to do this year. It also inspires me to get up in the morning and feel refreshed.  As you can see, the project #OneWord is a great way to get a good start in the new year.

All About Mia

Hello everybody!  My name is Mia.  I have a dog named Dottie, and live with my family by the beach.  We live in a small house and have friendly neighbors.  Dottie loves to go on walks and she especially loves food.  Whenever there is food, it is guaranteed she will be there.  I have lots of friends and love to to do fun outdoor activities or art pieces.  A sport I love to do is dance.  I do a variety of dance styles including Hip Hop, Theatre Jazz, and Ballet.  Have a great day!

Mesopotamian Simulation

In the sixth grade class, every year we do a simulation of Ancient Mesopotamia.  Each of the students is assigned an “Empire”, which is a group of people that they work with.  There are 5 empires, and they each have a name.  There are the Hittites, Phoenicians, Babylonians, Medes, and Persians.  These were all actual empires in Ancient Mesopotamia.  Each groups job is to gather coins, CP(Civilization Points), Armies, Moves to transport your armies, and resources.  There is a map of Mesopotamia for everyone to see that shows armies, resources, and your home square.  Your home square is where your armies are originally placed when you buy them.  Each group goes through four phases in the simulation.  Tribe, Village, City-State, and Empire.  For each phase,(They all last about one week) all group members do one task.  No matter what the task, the first step is to take notes.  The second step is to make a plan for your task.  The plan must be very detailed.  Then, you do your project.  Projects can vary from making models to writing essays, but there always has to be a creative component.  There are different categories of projects.

They Are:

-Arts, Architecture, and Public Works

-Centralized Government

-Jobs and Social Classes

-Writing

In the end, whoever has the most civilization points wins.  Your civilization points come from doing your tasks with quality work.

This is my City-State Task. I wrote a poem about Mesopotamian Religion, then added a word scramble with letters made of clay.

For my last task, (Empire Task) I worked with three other people to create a movie about Mesopotamian architecture. We had a good plot while inserting facts about the architecture.
